20 Robby and hist old friend Jim Sullivan play golf with two others. Jim takes a swing and talks to his ball.

JIM: (chanting) Stay away from that trap.

ROBBY: You couldn't reach that trap in a million years, partner.

JIM: I've reached the trap before.
전에 거기까지 도달한 적 있어.

ROBBY: (laugh) Yeah? Now, Pual, maybe.
(웃으며) 그래? 이제, Paul 차례지.

Robby and Jim walk down the fairway. Robby checks the card.

JIM: How are we doing?
우린 어떻게 하고 있는거지? (우리 점수가 어때?)

ROBBY: Good. We are two up in the front.

JIM: Good. How's that new editor working out?
좋아. 신임 편집장은 어떤가?

ROBBY: Well... He doesn't like basebasll. But he seems like a smart guy.
글쎄... 야구는 좋아하지 않아. 하지만 똑똑한 친구처럼 보여.

JIM: I read an article about him. Said he's the first Jewish editor at the Globe.
그에 관한 기사를 봤어. 하더군 첫번재 유태인 편집장 Globe 에서.

Said는 it (the article) said 신문기사에 말하길... 첫번째 문장이 끝나고 바로 Said he's를 말하고 약간의 포즈가 있어서 Said he's가 잘 안들릴 수도 있어. 영어에서는 이런 식으로 앞에 말에 붙어서 다음 말의 단어 일부를 바로 말하는 경우가 많은 것 같아.

ROBBY: Must have been a slow news day.
할 일 꽤나 없군.
a slow news day는 뉴스거리가 되지 않을 것들을 기사화하는 것을 말해. '그런 것도 뉴스로 내냐'는 식의...

JIM: (Chucles calmy) He got a family, this guy?
가족은 있어, 이 친구? (결혼했냐는 말?)

ROBBY: No. He is not married.
아니, 결혼 안했어.

JIM: Divorced?
이혼한거야?

ROBBY: I don't think so.
아닐거야.

JIM: So, the new editor at the Globe is an unmarried man of  the Jewish faith who hates baseball?
그럼, Globe의 새 편집장이 미혼의 유태인이고 야구를 싫어한다는 거야?

ROBBY: Yeah.
그래.

JIM: Should have given it to Ben.
그 자리는 Ben한테 줬어야 했는데.
앞에 They 같은 게 생략돼 있는 걸로 보여. 회사 이사회같은데서 인사를 결정하니까.

He's a Bradlee for crying-out-loud.
브래들리 가문 출신이잖아.
a Bradlee 이건 사람이름이 아니고 가문을 가리키는 거야 Bradlee라는 last name을 쓰는.
for crying-out-loud 미국식 감탄사. 화나 짜증이 날때 쓴다고 하네.

ROBBY: Didn't raise his hand fast enough, I guess.
손을 빨리 들지 않았나 보지.

They reach a ball on the fairway.

ROBBY:  Hey, by the way, I have been reading about this priest, Father Barett. Said you were involved with that.
그런데 말야, 기사를 읽고 있는데 이 신부에 대한 Father Barret. 자네가 재판에 참여했다고 하던데.

JIM: Barett, yeah, bad egg. Lake Street asked for help, I pitched in.
Barett, 그래. 망나니지. Lake Street가 도와 달라고 해서, 도와준거야.
bad egg: 쓰레기, 망나니.
Lake Street는 추기경 사무실이 있는 거리의 이름. 추기경을 의미하겠지.
ask for help: 도와 달라고 해...
pitch in: (싸움, 소송) 참여해...

ROBBY: Victim said Cardinal Law knew about Barrett when he came from Philly. Is that true?
피해자 말로는 추기경이 Barrett에 대해 알았어 그가 Philly에서 왔을 때. 사실이야?

JIM: You know I can't talk about the case, Robby.
재판에 대해서는 말해줄 수가 없어, Robby.

ROBBY: Off the record?
사적으로도 안돼?
off the record 보도하지 않는 비공식적 발언. for the record는 거의 반대의 의미로 쓰여.

JIM: Off the record, I can't talk about it (winks).
오프더레코드라도, 말할 수 없어.

ROBBY: (wryly) Alright.
(씁슬한듯) 알았어.

JIM: This related to the lawsuit?
이거 소송과 관련된 거야?

ROBBY: (surprised) You know about that?
(놀라며) 그거 알고 있어?

JIM: Look. I don't know this guy Baren and what his agenda is.
이봐. 난 몰라 이 Baron이란 사람 그리고 그의 관심사가 뭔지.

Frankly I don't care.
솔직히 상관안해.

I just don't want to see you taking a bullet for him.
보고 싶지 않을 뿐이야 니가 그의 총알받이가 되는 걸.

Jim looks down the ball.

JIM: I think you're away.
자네 볼은 한참 멀리갔어.
